Our History
Every dog deserves a loving forever home
This belief sparked the creation of Help For Dogs in 2018. Since then, we have dedicated ourselves to rescuing and improving the lives of abandoned and neglected dogs across Europe. Our mission is to provide them a safe and loving environment, and to find them forever homes where they can thrive.
Help For Dogs is more than just a charity. We're a community of passionate dog lovers with a shared goal - to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable dogs. Our fantastic team of dedicated volunteers, foster families and supporters work together to give these dogs a second chance at life.
OUR STORY
It all began with a photograph. Our founder Kayt received the picture of a pup named Repo from a friend who lived in Cyprus. Repo was four months old and malnourished, and had been dumped in a makeshift shelter in Cyprus, where there was nobody to care for him or his fellow abandoned dogs on a daily basis.
Kayt instantly fell in love with Repo - she knew he had to come live with her! And so, Repo became the very first adoption from Cyprus years before Help For Dogs was officially founded... but Kayt wasn't finished yet. This was where it all started - she became determined to help neglected and forgotten dogs just like Repo with little hope of survival, or of ever finding a loving home.
AND THEN...
A year later Kayt saw a picture of Winnie, who was in a similar plight to Repo. Winnie had been quarantined in a cage at the shelter with another older pup, but woke up one morning to find the other pup had died during the night. Poor Winnie was traumatised, and had to be comforted by the shelter's carer until she calmed down. Needless to say, Kayt immediately said she wanted to adopt Winnie, too.
Time flew by for Kayt, Repo and Winnie. Two years later, Kayt visited Cyprus and was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of stray dogs in need of aid. She decided then and there that, upon returning to the UK, she had to do something to help. The rest is history.
